samstag museum of art
Samstag's mission is characterised by its bold, creative, and responsive approach to contemporary visual arts, earning it national recognition for exceptional artistic programming and striving to stimulate, challenge, and engage its audience through diverse and innovative exhibitions, publications, and public activities.
As a founding member of the University Art Museums of Australia group (UAMA), Samstag stands as a prominent university art museum.
Established in 2007 as part of the University of South Australia (UniSA), the Samstag Museum of Art plays a pivotal role in enriching South Australia’s cultural and intellectual landscape and contributes to the Australian tertiary education sector.
With a dynamic exhibitions program that showcases contemporary visual art and relevant historical works, the museum aims to engage and educate a diverse audience.
In addition to curating exhibitions, Samstag manages UniSA's Art Collection and administers the Samstag Scholarships on behalf of the American-based trustee of the estate of Gordon Samstag.
background
In the initial project phase, Samstag aimed to diversify its student visitor base, targeting students from UniSA, other universities, higher education institutions, and high schools, especially those studying visual arts or interested in art.
However, a pipe burst in February 2023 led to extensive flooding and severe damage, forcing the galleries to remain closed for most of 2023, resulting in rescheduled, cancelled, or relocated exhibitions and programs.
An unexpected delay in the renovation process to replace the damaged floor resulted in the project's second phase shifting focus to prepare for the anticipated mid-2024.
This involved eDMs, social media content, a content calendar, an event kit with reopening templates, and website improvement recommendations.
Despite challenges, Samstag partially reopened on October 20th, featuring the 4th National Indigenous Art Triennial: Ceremony in two upstairs galleries.
strategic communication goals
This project aimed to manage the organisation's reputation by informing the audience about Samstag's current activities.
Additionally, it seeks to raise awareness of the upcoming reopening in 2024 by providing templates, designs, social media content, website content, and recommendations for website improvements.
long-term impact
The activities outlined in this project have a significant impact on Samstag's long-term goals and function. Samstag's main strategic objective is to attract more visitors when the museum reopens, and the project directly contributes to achieving this goal.
Providing templates, designs, content for social media and recommendations for the website enhances the museum's outreach and engagement efforts. Additionally, including event management templates aligns with their objective of hosting a successful reopening event.
These activities collectively contribute to the museum's reputation management, enhance its online presence, and create anticipation for the reopening in 2024.
Successful execution of these strategies will likely boost Samstag's visibility and attract a more diverse and engaged audience, positively impacting its long-term goals of expanding its visitor base and enriching its role as a cultural and educational institution.
