Hi! Nice to meet you! :)
I'm Glaucia Chaves, a Communication Specialist with extensive experience in journalism, media liaison, public relations, marketing, social media and content creation.
about me
I'm a Communication Specialist with over a decade of experience across the media, communications, and marketing industries in Australia and Brazil.
Throughout my career, I’ve worn various hats. I’ve worked as a science and health reporter for a newspaper (remember those?), as an online reporter, as a digital content creator, and as public relations. Currently, I'm exploring the higher education sector through a marketing lens.
I love to hear and tell stories, regardless of the medium. I’ve explored many paths within communication because I want to understand how things work. I want to know why we do things the way we do and how the ever-evolving media landscape shapes our messages and interactions.
As you might have already gathered, I’m curious by nature. However, while I’m constantly seeking answers, I find the questions far more interesting.
I’m a firm believer in lifelong learning and the transformative potential of education in all aspects of life. That’s why, after completing my Bachelor of Journalism, I studied an MBA in Communication Management in Digital Media and a Master of Communication. It’s a cliché, but education can change the world—it has certainly changed mine.
Outside of work, I’m obsessed with music—a good chunk of my income goes toward music streaming and concerts. I enjoy beach days, sunny walks, and culinary adventures, with Brazilian, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisines holding a special place in my heart.
journalism & public relations
professional experience
During my decade-long reporting career, I covered diverse topics in both print and online media, focusing on health, science, tourism, and human behavior. I had the privilege of traveling to Thailand, Switzerland, and Aruba. I even won two journalism awards.
As a PR professional, I represented health industry clients, including the Saint Lucia Hospital Group (Brazil's third-largest hospital network) and the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment. My work entailed media releases, event press strategies, and media relations.
marketing & content creation
As a marketing professional, I specialised in content creation, event support coordination, and social media management. I played a key role in developing and implementing several digital marketing plans and campaigns, focusing on creating a cohesive user experience across websites, social media, and email platforms.
I also worked as a social media and content creator, producing content for a variety of channels and projects, including print materials, eDMs, websites, social media, exhibition displays, advertising, events, and video content.
events
I was responsible for supporting the coordination and management of major domestic student recruitment events, including the 2023 UniSA Open Day, which hosted over 5,000 attendees across multiple locations. I also actively participated in various student recruitment and sponsorship events, such as the Australian HPV Super Series, Adelaide Careers & Employment Expo, and Tertiary Studies & Careers Expo.
In addition to procuring and managing vendor contracts, logistics, and payment arrangements for events, I oversaw the inventory and distribution of signage, brochures, and event assets. I also gathered and organised data to create post-event reports, participated in the conceptualisation and review of the UniSA Open Day website and brochure, and contributed to developing marketing plans for domestic student recruitment.
